2024 Toyota HiLux

When someone says the word pickup truck, HiLux is the first thing that comes to our minds. The legendary truck has been around for decades and still is the absolute leader around the world, with unparalleled reliability and durability. Today’s model is much more than that, as it also offers a high level of convenience, which will probably be even better with the next generation, which is expected to arrive with the 2025 model. Therefore, it is easy to predict that the 2024 Toyota HiLux won’t feature bigger changes, as it will represent the final production year of the current generation.

We expect to see a familiar design, which has been around since 2015 and updated two times. It offers a great mix of convenience and utility, along with an attractive design, a nice cabin and many other great features, including a capable optional diesel engine.

Since there are no bigger changes to come, we expect that the 2024 Toyota HiLux will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2024 Toyota HiLux Design

Design-wise, the 2024 Toyota HiLux should bring familiar characteristics. Of course, one of the first things that come to mind is styling. Although eight years old, the current generation still looks fresh and competitive, mainly because of the fact that it was updated two times. The last time we saw styling updates were two years ago, when the company introduced a more aggressive front-end design, with new headlights, a grille and much more. Since we are talking about the final production year of the generation, there’s no doubt that the 2024 HiLux will continue in the same way.

The same thing is with the mechanics, where this pickup combines modern and traditional technical solutions in such a nice way. For example, the rear suspension still features good-old leaf springs, which are highly beneficial in terms of durability but don’t deliver the best ride quality.

Interior

The same thing is with the cabin design, which is among the nicest in the class, despite the age. Simply, it looks very car-like, with decent aesthetics and materials, a solid number of tech and driver-assistance features etc. Also, the ergonomics are pretty good, so it’s easy to find a good driving position.

However, this cabin isn’t without flaws. It’s smaller compared to most rival trucks, so taller passengers may have trouble with room. That’s typical not just for the back seats, but at the front as well. Speaking of the back seats, the 2024 Toyota HiLux will continue in familiar cab styles and layouts, offering single cab, smart cab and crew cab variants. Of course, along with different cab styles, you may also count on different configurations regarding bed length.

2024 Toyota HiLux Engines

Of course, the engine lineup will also remain the same. Considering that we are talking about a pickup that’s sold all around the world, it’s no wonder that there is a wide range of diesel and petrol engines on offer, depending on the specifics of different parts of the world. Still, the most common is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which was upgraded a few years ago and now delivers pretty impressive numbers. It is good for about 201 horsepower and 500Nm of torque.

In most cases, base versions are equipped with a smaller 2.4-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 150 horsepower. In many parts of the world, Toyota also offers a good-old 2.7-liter four-cylinder petrol with 160 horses or even a large 4.0-liter V6. In most cases, the engines are paired with a 6-speed automatic, while some units are also available with a manual gearbox.

2024 Toyota HiLux Release Date

We expect that the 2024 Toyota HiLux will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023. Key competitors are models like Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger etc.

What to expect from the next-generation Toyota Hilux?

The 2025 HiLux is expected to come completely redesigned and we expect to see a lot of novelties. Of course, one of the main changes will be the new TNGA-F platform, which should bring improvements in various aspects. One of the things that come to mind is the new suspension setup, as many reports suggest that the good-old leaf springs could be replaced with something more modern.

Of course, this redesign will bring new exterior and interior design, but we are much more interested in new powertrain options, as the new platform will open up some new possibilities. For example, many believe that range-topping versions could be offered with the new 3.3-liter V6 turbodiesel, which debuted in the new Land Cruiser 300. There’s also a chance to see a hybrid version, probably the same system that’s expected in the next-generation Tacoma, with around 350 horsepower. The 2.4-liter turbo petrol could also be offered in some parts of the world, with a max output of 265 horsepower and nearly 500Nm of torque.
