The current-generation Patrol looks like it’s been around for ages and we agree – it definitely needs a redesign, especially after the recent arrival of the new-generation Land Cruiser 300. Well, it looks the wishes of many SUV enthusiasts will come true, as the latest reports suggest the new generation is in development. A test mule of what’s believed to be the next generation of this full-size SUV has been spotted completely camouflaged in the Middle East. Rumors suggest this will be a model to bring a lot of novelties. The new model could be ready already in the next year and hit the market as the 2024 Nissan Patrol.

At this point, it’s still early for more precise details but we have big expectations from the new model. Of course, we will see a completely new exterior design, even though the new model will most likely continue to ride on a familiar F-Alpha platform, which will get significant updates. The all-new Y63 Patrol would also come with a completely new interior design, while big changes are expected under the hood.

2024 Nissan Patrol Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, a test model of what’s believed to be the next-generation Patrol has been spotted on roads of the Middle East. At this point, we don’t know too much about the new model, but some things are quite easy to predict. For example, we are pretty sure that the new model will continue riding on the F-Alpha platform. Still, we count on significant updates and upgrades, especially when it comes to the chassis rigidity and suspension setup. As a result, the new model would offer a better driving experience, especially when it comes to on-road conditions, where handling and comfort are highly appreciated.

Also, we are getting reports about the new generation getting a hardcore off-road variant. That model would come with additional pieces of hardware. We are thinking of three locking differentials, disconnecting sway bar, further suspension upgrades and many more.

Exterior

As for the exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is styling. Of course, we expect it to be all-new, though the major refresh from a few years ago already brought a pretty attractive look with lots of futuristic details. For that reason, we expect that the 2024 Nissan Patrol will rather come with evolutionary, subtle changes, even though a kind of new design language will certainly be applied.

In terms of dimensions, the outgoing model is good for about 3.075mm in wheelbase and 5.165mm in total length. Furthermore, it is 1.995mm wide and 1.955mm tall, and we are pretty sure that the new model won’t change significantly.

Interior

One of the key complaints for the current generation goes to interior design. Even though the overall build quality is pretty impressive and the materials are really fine, the current model simply looks old. Despite the recent updates, this cabin was designed way back in 2010 and it definitely needs a refreshment. We count on a way more modern dashboard design, along with the addition of modern tech features.

As for the interior space, similar dimensions suggest a similar amount of space on the inside. That’s definitely not a bad thing, considering that the current model is already pretty impressive in this aspect. It accommodates adults in all rows, including the third one.

2024 Nissan Patrol Engines

This is where we expect to see big changes, as the 2024 Nissan Patrol will almost certainly follow LC300’s example. This means that, instead of the good-old 5.6-liter V8, the new model will rather feature a twin-turbo V6. At this point, Nissan still doesn’t have a proper engine in its portfolio, except for the 3.0-liter unit from the 400Z. However, that engine lacks torque, so the Japanese manufacturer will certainly have to go for something with a bigger displacement.

One of the possible solutions could be a turbocharged version of the 3.8-liter V6, which powers the new Frontier. In that, naturally-aspirated variant, it puts out 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, so we presume that the turbocharged version would be able to put out over 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which seems quite appropriate for this SUV. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the officials to hear more about the future powertrain.

2024 Nissan Patrol Release Date and Competition

As mentioned, the 2024 Nissan Patrol could arrive already by the end of this, or sometime in the next year. Of course, the Land Cruiser will remain the key competitor. Still, we shouldn’t neglect more luxurious rivals like Range Rover Sport, Mercedes-Benz G-Class etc.
