2024 Nissan Frontier Preview: Changes, Refresh, Release Date

The Frontier has been a strong seller for many years in a row and the 2022 redesign made things even better. Nissan’s pickup is currently the fourth best-selling mid-size, behind Tacoma, Colorado and Gladiator, but above models like Ranger and Canyon. Considering that the 2024 Nissan Frontier will represent the third production year of the current generation so, logically, we would expect no bigger changes. However, the latest reports suggest something different. It looks like the Japanese manufacturer is preparing an early mid-cycle refresh, while some sources also speculate about the addition of a hybrid powertrain.

These updates would certainly make the new Frontier more appealing but considering that the current generation is still pretty fresh, we have no doubt that the overall design would remain the same. The 2024 Nissan Frontier will remain a dependable pickup, powered by a capable V6, with a nice interior and quite a balanced ride. We also like the seats very much, while the key complaint goes to the tight second row and subpar max towing capacity.

We expect that the 2024 Frontier will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2024 Nissan Frontier Design

As we’ve just mentioned, some sources suggest an early mid-cycle refresh. At this point, it’s hard to say if this scenario is likely or not but if we consider that the current generation has been around since the 2022 model year, it’s easy to conclude that the changes wouldn’t be significant. We would probably see some minor tweaks to the front end, with some revisions to the lighting groups and front fascia. Of course, we could also see things like new color options and wheels, while a new appearance package is also a possibility.

Also, some sources suggest that Nissan could upgrade the Pro-4X model. Although a decent off-roader, this version still lags behind the competition, so the Japanese manufacturer might add a few more off-road features, such as a locking differential. The current model comes with Bilstein shocks, all-terrain tires, skid plates and 9.5 inches of ground clearance.

Interior

On the other hand, even if the mid-cycle update happens, we don’t believe it could bring any more important changes to the inside. The current cabin already looks nice, with an attractive dashboard and quality materials. Still, we could see an updated infotainment system, for example, considering that the current one has a few bugs.

Of course, we count on two familiar cab styles on offer. The base Kind Cab is quite tight in the second row, while things are much better with the Crew cab model. In both cases, the front row comes equipped with Nissan’s Zero Gravity seats, which are some of the best in the class, and praised for their excellent comfort.

When it comes to cargo bed length, you have a choice between a 5-foot and a 6-foot-1-inch bed. The King Cab comes with the longer bed only, while the Crew Cab can be configured with both bed lengths.

2024 Nissan Frontier Could Get a Hybrid Powertrain

Another rumor we can hear these days is about the Frontier getting a hybrid powertrain. Although rumors don’t offer any details suggestions, we presume that the Japanese company could implement its new, e-POWER technology, which works in a little bit different way than other hybrid setups. In this system, the wheels are powered by electric motors, while the gasoline engine works as a power generator and charges a relatively small battery. The result of this interesting concept is that the driving experience is pretty much the same as in the all-electric vehicle.

On the other hand, base models will continue with the familiar 3.8-liter V6, introduced a few years ago. It features around 310 horsepower, which is plenty enough to ensure strong overall performance and satisfy most drivers. The engine comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which feels smooth and refined. The average fuel economy goes up to 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, which feels typical for the class. On the other hand, the max towing capacity is below average and goes up to 6.720 pounds.

2024 Nissan Frontier Release Date and Price

Despite the rumored updates, we don’t believe that the 2024 Nissan Frontier will arrive before the last quarter of the year. Also, we don’t expect bigger changes in price, at least when it comes to base models, which currently start at around 30.000 dollars.
