The Japanese manufacturer is currently in a big process of renewing the whole lineup and this will include body-on-frame vehicles as well. So, what we expect to see in the next year are the new generation of L200/Triton, as well as the new 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The capable SUV is about to bring a completely new design and from what we know so far, changes will be pretty significant.

At this point, we know that the new model will be notably different than the current generation, which has been around since 2015. Although the overall layout won’t change, the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will ride on a new platform and come with lots of new parts, which could also include the new powertrain. Besides mechanical upgrades, we also expect to see new styling, as well as a more upscale cabin, with all kinds of new tech and convenience features.

We expect the launch date to be scheduled for the second half of 2023.

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Design

This will be a full redesign and from what we know so far, it will bring some pretty significant changes. This refers to all design aspects, starting from the new platform. Just like the new L200/Triton, the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will switch to Nissan’s F-Alpha platform, which will bring various benefits, particularly in terms of ride quality.

The new platform will open up new possibilities. First of all, it will allow the use of some other engine options, as well as some new technologies regarding drive-assistance features etc. The new suspension setup will include further upgrades, including the refined independent rear suspension.

The new generation will improve the ride quality but we don’t expect any compromises regarding off-road capabilities. Therefore, count on all kinds of off-road upgrades, such as low-range gearing, locking differential, skid plates, various traction modes etc.

Exterior

Of course, a new generation means new aesthetics. We expect that the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will bring a completely new styling, which would make it look more appealing. At this point, we have no details but we presume that the new SUV will follow the brand’s latest design language, so the front end should have a lot of similarities with crossovers like Eclipse Cross and Outlander. However, the model’s BoF nature means that we will certainly see a bolder and more rugged look.

This doesn’t refer to the front-end design, but the overall shape as well. The new generations should gain even more muscles on the side, though we don’t expect bigger changes regarding dimensions. The wheelbase should remain pretty similar, just like the rest of the measurements. Although a mid-size SUV, the Pajero Sport features relatively modest dimensions, as one of its main tasks is to provide excellent off-road performance.

Interior

Besides new exterior aesthetics, we count on new interior aesthetics. The current cabin doesn’t look particularly appealing. It is all about functionality, so the dashboard design and materials aren’t particularly great. We expect that the new 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will remain highly functional but it should also bring nicer aesthetics, along with finer materials and other upgrades. Of course, we count on new tech features, including a new infotainment system, new connectivity features etc.

Considering that exterior dimensions will probably remain the same or very similar, we shouldn’t see bigger surprises on the inside either. So, the three-row seat configuration will remain, with the third row that’s rather tight. On the other hand, the first two rows are pretty generous with space and quite comfortable, while the cargo area should also offer respectable numbers for the class.

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Engine

The new platform means new engine options, so it’s no wonder that many sources suggest that the current 2.4-liter turbodiesel could be replaced. It features a max output of 176 horsepower and 400Nm of torque, which is pretty impressive for such an engine. However, there is an even more impressive unit in Renault Nissan Alliance – Renault’s well-known 2.3-liter turbodiesel, which powers the current-generation Navara, with a max output of 190 horsepower and 450Nm of torque. Along with this engine, we would expect to see a new transmission.

Some sources also speculate about a hybrid version. Allegedly, Mitsubishi could come up with a PHEV version of this truck, though the exact details are still unavailable.

2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Release Date

The 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is expected to arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, though a more precise date is still unavailable. Of course, the new generation will continue to compete with familiar rivals, such as Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest etc.
