The current generation of Mitsubishi’s compact crossover came last year and brought significant improvement over the previous model. It brought way more refinement, whether it’s about tech features, ride quality, or interior materials. Simply said, it is a way more complete vehicle than before, which has a lot of great things to offer. That’s why we are pretty sure that the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, which will represent the third production year, will probably carry on without more important updates.

This means that you may count on one of the rare compact SUVs with three rows of seats, which has a very nice cabin and comes with a pretty intuitive infotainment system. Furthermore, we like its handling and the overall ride quality, which feels pretty refined. On the other hand, the biggest complaint goes to the powertrain, which feels a little bit underpowered and doesn’t impress in terms of fuel economy either.

With no bigger changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander will arrive sometime in the last quarter of this year.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Design

Design-wise, the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander might come with a few updates. Those updates won’t be significant, but there is always room for things like new color options or even a new optional package. On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same. The styling of this SUV is pretty attractive. The front end looks bold and pretty attractive, even futuristic in some way. The rest of the body also incorporates sharp lines but feels quite elegant.

Besides attractive aesthetics, this crossover also offers pretty impressive ride quality. The new generation is based on Nissan’s CMF platform and the ride quality is actually quite similar to the new Rogue. The ride feels composed, though smoothness would be the best word to describe it.

Interior

Unlike the exterior, the interior design shouldn’t feature bigger updates. That’s not an issue at all, considering that the current model made a significant improvement over the previous generation. The new cabin looks very upscale, thanks to modern aesthetics, super fine materials and a lot of tech features. Everything feels assembled very well, and the seats are massive and supportive.

Speaking of the seats, this is one of the rare compact crossovers with three rows. The first two rows are very spacious and comfortable, while the third one is tight and can hardly accommodate adult passengers. Still, it can be very functional and it is a great advantage over most competitors.

With the third row up, there isn’t much cargo space to use. Practically, 11.7 cubic feet is all you get, but things become much better once you fold it down. In that case, you may count on a pretty decent 33.5 cubic feet, while the total cargo volume, with the both second and third rows down both increases the capacity to 79.7 cubic feet.

Features

Yearly updates are mostly about the new standard and available equipment, so we might see some changes in this aspect for the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. Still, these updates will be minor and most things should remain the same as in the current model. So, base models should come standard with goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, two USB ports voice recognition, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Also, the current model is available with goodies like a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless device charging, a 10-speaker Bose premium stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, two rear USB ports, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, proximity keyless entry, tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a panoramic sunroof. We presume some of these could become standard in the next year’s model.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Engines

Things under the hood will remain the same. The 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue with two familiar powertrain options on offer. Starting from the base 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out 181 horsepower. The engine comes coupled with a CVT and doesn’t offer particularly great performance. Fuel economy isn’t great either, considering that you can get up to 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the higher, which is lower compared to the competition.

If you’re looking for something peppier, you can pay extra for a plug-in hybrid, which comes with a system that combines a 2.4-liter engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 248 horsepower and a pretty respectable 332 pound-feet of torque. The system also includes a pretty massive 20-kWh battery pack, which ensures up to 38 miles in the EV mode, just 4 miles less compares to the RAV4 Prime.

2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 29.000 dollars. VW Tiguan is seen as a key competitor, while there are also models like Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage etc.
