The current generation of Mazda’s compact has been around since 2019 and despite that many competitors are younger, this model is still among the most desirable in the class. Simply, no other car at this price range offers such a combination of style and driving experience, and especially not such a level of interior luxury. However, the Japanese manufacturer plans to update the current generation, allegedly. The 2024 Mazda 3 will represent the fifth model year of the sixth model year of the generation, so we might see some novelties indeed.

At this point, the officials are still quiet. The 2023 model has brought some changes under the hood, while the next year’s update could bring some minor styling and interior changes. However, if we consider that the current model already looks gorgeous, we are pretty sure that these updates would be pretty subtle.

In any case, we expect to see the 2024 Mazda 3 sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Mazda 3 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Mazda 3 could receive an update. However, the officials are still quiet, so it’s hard to talk about details. We can only presume that the changes won’t be significant, considering that the current version already looks gorgeous. It is arguably the prettiest model in the class, with sleek lines and an aggressive but elegant front-end design. The front end may suffer from minor updates but the overall layout will certainly remain the same. Of course, we could also see updates in terms of new color options, new wheels etc.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle definitely won’t change. The 2024 Mazda 3 will continue to deliver impressive handling and overall driving experience. This is the most athletic vehicle in the class by a pretty large margin. The trade-off comes in a little bit firm ride, which can be quite uncomfortable on uneven roads.

Interior

The same thing is with interior design. If you look at the current cabin, you will find nothing but elegance and fine materials. The Mazda 3 is pretty much on par with premium players in this aspect. It offers elegant styling, lots of features and pretty good sound insulation. So, we don’t know what could change after this update, except for a couple of new features and new color schemes.

The driving position is excellent and there is plenty of space for the front passengers. On the other hand, the second row is one of the tightest in the class and taller passengers may feel a little bit claustrophobic. Another complaint goes to the cargo area, which is smaller compared to most rivals. The sedan offers around 14 cubic feet of trunk space, while the hatchback is good for 20 cubic feet. Both are subpar ratings when compared to rivals like Honda Civic, for example.

Features

Naturally, this update would bring some novelties regarding the standard and available equipment. Once again, we don’t expect significant changes, considering that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like push-button start, remote keyless entry, an 8.8-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an eight-speaker stereo, HD Radio, voice command, Bluetooth and two USB ports. We presume that some of the current options, such as a moonroof, satellite radio, navigation and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, could find their place on the list of standard equipment.

The same thing is with safety features. The current model already comes standard with things like a rearview camera, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning, lane keeps assisting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive headlights etc. Among upgrades, you can find goodies like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, surround-view parking camera etc.

2024 Mazda 3 Engines

We don’t expect to see bigger changes under the hood, as the 2023 model has brought some changes. The base 2.0-liter unit has been discontinued, and the 2.5-liter inline-four is not standard. Also, this unit received a slight power boost, so the max output now goes around 191 horsepower. Of course, there is also an optional turbo-four, which puts out 250 horsepower and offers pretty impressive performance. You can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic, which both work great, though the automatic is the only one that can be paired with an AWD drivetrain.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway, which is good for the segment.

2024 Mazda 3 Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Mazda 3 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 23.000 dollars.
