2024 Lexus GX

Compared to most mid-size SUVs on the market, the current-generation GX feels like a dinosaur. That’s no wonder, considering that the current version has been around since 2008, so it will soon turn 15 years. However, it is still a pretty relevant player on the market, mainly because of its body-on-frame design and pretty impressive off-road performance. Still, the company feels it’s time for changes and that’s why the latest reports suggest a complete redesign in the next year when we expect to see an all-new 2024 Lexus GX. We are still waiting for the official confirmation.

In any case, we expect that the new generation will once again share most of the parts with Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, which is also about to come completely redesigned in the next year. We count on a genuine body-on-frame SUV once again but based on the new TNGA-F platform this time. A lot of novelties are about to come, including the new powertrain, which could also be electrified.

2024 Lexus GX Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the all-new 2024 Lexus GX will come completely redesigned and we expect to see a lot of changes. The first thing to talk about is the new platform, the TNGA-F architecture, which already underpins the new LX, as well as the new Tundra, Land Cruiser etc.

Benefits from the new platform will be numerous, starting from the lower center of gravity and improved ride quality. Also, the new platform will open up a whole new spectrum of new tech possibilities, including electrification. The latest reports suggest that the next-generation GX will probably be available with a hybrid powertrain.

Of course, the new GX won’t sacrifice its off-road potential. We expect that the new model will be available with all kinds of off-road features, including locking differentials, various traction control modes etc.

Exterior

When it comes to exterior design, the first thing that comes to mind is the new styling. We count on the implementation of the brand’s new design language. We presume that the front end will take a lot of inspiration from the new LX and come with the new iteration of the brand’s well-known spindle grille and other design elements.

On the other hand, the overall shape probably won’t change much. We count on similar dimensions, including the wheelbase, which will probably remain unchanged. Simply, we presume that the Japanese carmaker doesn’t want to compromise the model’s off-road potential. For the same reason, the overhangs should remain short.

Interior

Not many things have changed since the launch of the current generation. So, it’s no wonder that many aspects of this cabin feel a little bit outdated. Therefore, we count on a lot of improvement from the new model, which should bring a much nicer cabin, wrapped with finer materials and with more attention to detail. The overall build quality should be even better, while we also count on a full load of new tech features.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout won’t change much. As exterior dimensions are about to remain the same, we may expect a similar amount of passenger space. Most likely, two rows of seats will be standard, while the third row will be optional. The third row won’t be particularly comfortable, while the cargo area behind the third row will remain pretty modest as well.

2024 Lexus GX Engines

The current generation features a good-old 4.6-liter V8 which offers impressive durability and reliability. However, if we look by today’s standards, it’s not particularly powerful, or efficient. That’s why we expect to see a completely new powertrain for the 2024 Lexus GX. At this point, details are still unavailable but it is expected that the 2024 Lexus GX will come with the company’s new 3.4-liter turbo V6, in a variant that features a max output of 349 horsepower. Of course, we would also expect to see a new transmission, either an 8- or 10-speed automatic.

Some sources also speculate about the hybrid powertrain. Allegedly, we would see a system based on a 2.4-liter turbo-four engine, similar to the one found in the new RX. That system puts out around 366 horsepower and comes with a 6-speed automatic. However, keep in mind that the RX features a transversally-mounted engine and it is front-wheel-drive biased. On the other hand, the GX features a longitudinally-mounted engine and a 4WD system that’s derived from the rear-wheel drive. Therefore, this system would have to receive several modifications and a new transmission to be installed in the new GX.

2024 Lexus GX Release Date and Price

We expect that the next-generation 2024 Lexus GX could arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, though the officials are yet to come up with details. When it comes to price, we estimate that base models would cost around 55.000 dollars.
