The current generation of Kia’s popular three-row SUV has been around for while and it looks like it’s time for a refresh. The test mule has been spotted a couple of times and it’s been showing a camouflaged body for some time. These days, we saw the cabin for the first time and it is also completely covered. All this indicates that the 2024 Kia Sorento is about to come with more updates than you would probably expect from a mid-cycle refresh. We are about to see both exterior and interior changes but on the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle shouldn’t change.
So, what we are about to see are lots of styling updates but on the other hand, the overall character of the vehicle is about to remain the same. The next year’s Sorento will remain an SUV that offers composed ride and handling, along with pretty efficient powertrain options. Furthermore, it should bring an even more upscale cabin, as well as more standard features.
We expect that the 2024 Kia Sorento will arrive sometime in the second half of the year.
2024 Kia Sorento Design
The 2024 Kia Sorento is getting a mid-cycle refresh and as we already mentioned, the test mule has been around for a while. It still wears a complete camouflage, so it’s hard to predict the exact styling. Considering the amount of camouflage, we presume that the changes will be significant. We expect to see a completely new front-end design, which may take some inspiration from Telluride. Alternatively, it could borrow some aesthetical solutions from the new Sportage and bring a more futuristic appearance. It is still hard to predict the new look but we are pretty sure that the changes will be significant.
On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger changes under the skin. The chassis will remain the same, while we don’t expect changes in terms of the suspension setup either. Therefore, the ride quality should remain the same as well, offering composed handling and pretty responsive driving manners.
Interior
As mentioned, the 2024 Kia Sorento will also come with big interior changes. Spy photographers have just taken a few interior shots and we can see that the inside of the new model is also under heavy camouflage. Once again, the dashboard design is a mystery, but we presume that some inspiration might be taken from the other models in the lineup, particularly in terms of the new, integrated instrument cluster and infotainment screens. We also count on new materials, revised climate controls, center console etc.
Despite the changes, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. The next year’s model will continue with the same seating configuration, which includes three rows of seats. The first two rows are pretty spacious and comfortable, while the third row is tighter compared to most other three-row crossovers.
Features
Of course, we also expect the new model to bring some additions to the list of standard equipment, even though the current one already stands pretty well in this aspect. It comes standard with goodies like an 8-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six USB ports, HD Radio, a six-speaker stereo, an analog gauge cluster and remote keyless entry.
So, we presume that some of the current options might become part of the standard equipment. The current model is available with goodies like a 10.3-inch touch screen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, satellite radio, wireless device charging, a 120-volt household-style power outlet, two additional USB ports, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, a panoramic sunroof and rear sunshades.
2024 Kia Sorento Engines
Despite the numerous updates in terms of styling and interior design, the powertrain lineup will remain the same. The 2024 Kia Sorento will continue with four powertrain options on offer, starting from the base 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 191 horsepower. Also, there is an upgrade in the form of a 2.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 281 horsepower and offers way better driving dynamics.
Two more powertrain options are available, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The former is based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine and puts out around 226 horsepower. The PHEV is based on the same engine but comes with a bigger battery and a more capable electric motor, so the combined output goes up to 261 horsepower. Also, the PHEV offers up to 32 miles of all-electric range.
2024 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Kia Sorento will arrive sometime in the second half of the year, with a starting price of around 32.000 dollars. Key competitors are three-row crossovers like Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder etc.
