It might sound not so familiar to some, but Mohave is actually a well-known name in Kia’s portfolio. Back in the day, it was even sold in North America, though for just a couple of years. It was a pretty large body-on-frame SUV, which is better known as Borrego in most other markets. Moreover, it is still available in many parts of the world and now, it looks like we could see it in North America once again. However, the 2024 Kia Mohave would be different this time. In North America, it would come in the form of a pickup.
This makes a lot of sense. Namely, the Korean carmaker hasn’t been present in the pickup segment, which has been constantly growing in the last few years. Therefore, we presume that this model would come as a mid-size pickup, a model that would compete in the segment where Toyota Tacoma and Chevy Colorado. The officials are still quiet, but we are expecting their confirmation in the near future.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Design
So, what we expect to see is a classic pickup truck design. Some earlier reports were suggesting a unibody layout but it looks like that’s not going to happen. Instead, this will be a genuine pickup, with a fully-framed chassis. Of course, the Borrego SUV would serve as the basis. This SUV was redesigned in 2019 and it looks pretty impressive in many aspects. The new 2024 Kia Mohave would certainly borrow not just the platform, but the whole suspension setup as well.
Moreover, we could also see a lot of things in common in terms of aesthetics. This particularly refers to the front end, as some rendering photos already show the same face. Naturally, the rest of the body would come in a typical pickup layout and for now, it’s hard to tell if the new model is about to come in a crew cab layout only, or we could also see single and extended cab styles.
Interior
As mentioned, things about the cab styles are still unclear. We might see different layouts but the 2024 Kia Mohave may come only as a crew cab pickup only instead. Namely, more and more manufacturers are practicing this, because modern pickups are not seen as bare-boned work mules anymore.
As for the inside aesthetics and similar things, we presume that the SUV iteration would once again serve as inspiration. That’s definitely a good thing, considering that the Borrego looks pretty upscale from the inside, especially after the 2019 redesign. The materials are nice, the build quality is good, and the amount of tech features is pretty generous. All in all, this should be one of the better-looking cabins in the segment.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Engines
As for the powertrain, the SUV model is currently offered only in a diesel version, so there is no doubt that the Korean manufacturer would have to prepare a new gasoline powertrain for the 2024 Kia Mohave pickup. We presume that would be a familiar 3.8-liter V6, the same engine that already powers Telluride mid-size SUV, with a max output of around 290 horsepower. On the other hand, the diesel version could also be offered in the U.S. with the familiar 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. That unit puts out around 250 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which seems plenty enough to move this pickup with ease.
No matter the engine, the new pickup would come with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with the standard rear-wheel drive and available AWD setup.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Release Date and Price
As mentioned, we are still waiting for the officials to confirm this model. On the other hand, the unofficial reports suggest the new pickup could arrive already in the next year. If this happens, we estimate base versions would cost around 30.000 dollars.
