Back in the day, Honda shocked the world with its perfectly balanced roadster, powered by the screaming 9.000RPM naturally-aspirated engine and from today’s perspective, this is still one of the most exciting roadsters ever made. Therefore, it’s a real shame that the second generation never happened. However, this could change, as some sources that the new iteration could happen already in the next year, such as the 2024 Honda S2000.
At this point, the officials are still quiet and despite the rumors, it’s hard to say what are the actual chances to see this legend in production once again. The problem is the fact that the development would cost a fortune and that’s something no one can afford these days, to spend so much money on a low-volume car, when there is a massive transition to electric cars on the way. That’s why this comeback should be taken with a big reserve. Still, that won’t stop us from dreaming and speculating about the resurrected roadster, so let’s get on predictions and expectations for the 2024 Honda S2000.
2024 Honda S2000 Design
So, the first thing that comes to mind is the overall design. In this aspect, we expect absolutely no surprises. We count on a classic roadster layout, with a familiar silhouette that characterized the original model. Practically, the overall shape wouldn’t change significantly, while dimensions would remain similar as well. On the other hand, the key changes would happen at the front end, where we would expect a new face, with new headlights, grille etc. Some inspiration may even be taken from the NSX supercar.
The key issue with this revival is that the 2024 Honda S2000 would have to be built from the scratch. Currently, Honda doesn’t have a platform that could be used for the new roadster. Of course, we expect to see a classic layout, with a longitudinally mounted engine and rear-wheel-drive, just like in the original.
Interior
The same thing is with interior design. We expect a strong resemblance to the original cockpit, which would mean a hard-core Spartan design, with minimalistic aesthetics that are free of unnecessary details. Practically, everything would be oriented to the driver, though we would probably see a little bit nicer materials compared to the original. Would the instrument cluster mimic the original one, it’s hard to say at this point.
Of course, the 2024 Honda S2000 would also be a two-seater, with a couple of well-shaped seats with excellent support and not much surrounding space. We don’t expect too many practical features, such as storage compartments and similar things, just a simple layout.
2024 Honda S2000 Engine
This is one of the most interesting aspects of the 2024 Honda S2000. As you probably remember, the original model was powered by an impressive 240-hp naturally-aspirated inline-four engine. It was able to rev all away up to 9.000 RPMs. Unfortunately, these are different times, and the new unit would probably go with a turbocharger.
We presume that the Type R’s 2.0-liter turbo-four would be an excellent basis for this convertible, considering that the engine puts out over 320 horsepower. Still, we presume that some modifications would be made and that the engine would have a little bit different character. Namely, the Type R’s unit doesn’t rev particularly high and it’s mostly about mid-range power. We presume to tat the S2000’s engine would be tuned to rev much higher and that the peak torque and power would be higher as well. How much higher? Well, that’s up to Honda engineers and their abilities.
2024 Honda S2000 Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2024 Honda S2000 is still just a rumor. So, the actual chances to see it aren’t too big. On the other hand, some sources suggest that the revival could happen already in the next year.
