With the recent revival of the Ford Bronco, along with the everlasting popularity of the Wrangler, it’s pretty obvious that the interest in genuine off-road SUVs hasn’t faded away. Moreover, it looks like these vehicles are becoming more and more popular, so GM won’t just sit and watch rivals making a big profit on their off-roaders. They will offer a serious competitor and just like Ford, GM will also revive a familiar nameplate. In this case, we expect to see the 2024 GMC Jimmy, a new iteration of the well-known off-roader.
At this point, the officials are still quiet about the model’s specs and features, so the only thing we can do for now is to predict and rely on rumours. Still, some things are relatively easy to predict, starting from the platform and body style. Also, the powertrain department shouldn’t bring any surprises.
We believe that the 2024 GMC Jimmy could arrive sometime in the next year.
2024 GMC Jimmy Design
So, let’s start with the most basic things about the 2024 GMC Jimmy. The first thing that comes to mind is the platform. As a genuine off-roader, the new Jimmy would ride on a body-on-frame architecture. While some sources speculate about Sierra’s full-size platform, we are pretty sure that GMC engineers will rather go for a smaller, Canyon-based design. The mid-size pickup has just received a redesign, with an updated platform. So, most of the mechanics would be shared, whether it’s about powertrain or chassis and suspension setup.
Speaking of the chassis and suspension setup, we have no doubt that the company would offer some kind of a hardcore off-road version too. It may come with the familiar AT4X badge or something else, but there’s no doubt it will bring lots of upgrades, such as off-road suspension, disconnecting sway bar, locking differentials, a two-speed transfer case and many more.
Exterior
When it comes to exterior design, it’s obvious that the 2024 GMC Jimmy would feature a classic, bold SUV layout. Still, we are not sure about the overall dimensions. Some sources suggest both two- and four-door variants, something that both rival companies are practicing with their models. On the other hand, some sources suggest a little bit different approach, which would include just one variant, maybe even with the available third row of seats, something that would directly challenge the popular Toyota 4Runner.
On the other hand, we presume that the aesthetics would bring bigger surprises, especially at the front, where the company will most likely implement the same design language as the new Canyon. The front face should look the same, while the rest of the body could bring some interesting new solutions. Of course, the off-road version would come with a good number of exclusive styling features and accessories.
Interior
Once again, we expect close relation to the new Canyon pickup. This particularly refers to the dashboard design, which looks pretty attractive in the new generation of mid-size pickup. There is a pretty elegant dashboard design, with fine materials and great build quality. Furthermore, there is a pretty generous offer of tech and convenience features, including some pretty massive screens. For example, base models come with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as an 11.3-inch infotainment screen, while you can also get an upgraded, 11-inch instrument display.
The seating configuration will largely depend on the offer of body styles and dimensions. As we already mentioned, we could see 2- and 4-door versions just like it’s the case with rivals. In some other scenarios, we could see a bigger size and the optional third row of seats.
2024 GMC Jimmy Engines
This is one of the aspects where we definitely won’t see any surprises. The new Canyon has just been launched and it now features a completely new powertrain, a 2.7-liter turbo-four engine, which comes coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
In the case of Canyon, the new engine comes in three output variants, so we wouldn’t expect anything different from the new SUV. So, base models would come in a variant with 237 horsepower, while higher trim levels would be good for about 301 horsepower. Finally, the most hardcore off-roaders would come in a variant with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
As we already mentioned, all models would come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and standard four-wheel drive.
2024 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price
The 2024 GMC Jimmy is still waiting for official confirmation. On the other hand, rumors suggest it could hit the market already in the next year. We estimate that base versions could go around 35-40.000 dollars.
