After the launch of the new Hummer all-electric pickup, we are now eagerly waiting for the SUV iteration, which will also come in different trim levels with different output variants. Of course, Edition 1 will once again come first, with the highest output and highest price. On the other hand, we are also waiting for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2, which will be the most affordable version of the SUV, which will come with less but still impressive amount of power and performance.
Other than the powertrain, this version won’t feature many differences compared to the rest of the lineup. We will also see a classic SUV layout, with the same design language as the pickup, with a massive and bold stance, compared with the futuristic cabin design with plenty of tech features and plenty of passenger space.
Most likely, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2 will arrive in the first quarter of 2024.
2024 GMC Hummer EV2 Drivetrain
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2 will be the base version of the new EV SUV. It will be designed to be relatively affordable and, therefore, it won’t feature too complex a system. For example, this version will use 400-volt technology, while the rest of the lineup will come with an 800-volt setup. Instead of the maximum 830-hp drivetrain, this version will come with a dual-motor setup, with a max output of 625 horsepower. The company claims that the max torque will be 7.400 lb-ft but estimate that the real-world numbers will go around 700 pound-feet.
When it comes to the battery and range, the new Ultium technology supports up to 200 kWh of capacity but this particular version will probably feature a pack that’s good for about 167 kWh, which should ensure a max range of around 250 miles. The company promises charging speeds of 300 kW but we still don’t know if this speed will be available in base models.
2024 GMC Hummer EV2 Design
Design-wise, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2 won’t be significantly different compared to higher trim levels. Therefore, you may count on the same overall design as in the pickup iteration, though the wheelbase will be slightly shorter. We are about to see a typical SUV layout, with a familiar aesthetical approach.
Speaking of the aesthetics, most of them will be identical to the pickup, at least in the front. We are about to see the same combination of headlights and grille, which closely resemble previous generations of the nameplate. Of course, the rear end will be significantly different, due to the SUV body style. So, the taillights will be slightly different, while a full-size spare wheel on the rear doors will also be part of the standard equipment.
Interior
Once again, we can refer to the pickup version. The dashboard design and the overall cabin aesthetics look the same. So, the dash comes with a clean, futuristic design, complemented by a couple of massive screens that replace most of the physical controls. At the same time, there are some classic design solutions, such as the traditional gear lever. Also, there are a few unique details that celebrate GM’s participation in the Apollo space program, just like in the pickup.
Although with pretty respectable dimensions, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2 won’t feature three rows of seats. It will come as a five-seater, with a couple of very generous rows of seats, which both accommodate adults with ease. The cargo area will also be very generous, with 82 cubic feet of the total cargo volume, while you may also count on a removable roof and other body panels, which will make this SUV quite customizable.
Features
Although a base version of the new SUV, the EV2 will be equipped fairly well. We already talked about a couple of massive screens on the dashboard. There is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as a massive 13.4-inch infotainment screen, which replaces some but also keeps a good number of physical controls, which makes operation much easier. The list of standard equipment should also include goodies like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. Although the base trim, it will be available with a decent number of options, such as Bose stereo, built-in navigation, a rear-seat infotainment system, and wireless charging.
The list of standard equipment will also include a decent number of safety features. Things like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control are some of them.
2024 GMC Hummer EV2 Release Date and Price
Unfortunately, the EV2 will be the last one to come into the lineup. While the range-topping Edition 1 is almost here, the 2024 GMC Hummer EV2 won’t arrive before the first half of 2024. It will be the most affordable variant of the new SUV, with a starting price of around 80.000 dollars.
