Just like it did some time ago, the compact SUV segment is now becoming the most popular in Europe. The market is more crowded than ever, so Ford’s SUV certainly needs some updates to remain competitive. That’s why the 2024 Ford Kuga is about to receive a facelift. The model’s North American twin, the Escape came refreshed for the 2023 model year and we expect the same updates to be implemented in the next year’s Kuga.

This would mean various changes. Of course, the most prominent ones would be in terms of aesthetics, while we also count on notable updates on the inside, especially in terms of new tech and convenience features. On the other hand, we are not sure if the next year’s model could bring changes under the hood.

With all the anticipated updates, we presume that the 2024 Ford Kuga will arrive a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of the year.

As we’ve just mentioned, the most important updates will be those in terms of aesthetics. We expect to see pretty much the same changes we saw on the 2023 Escape, which received pretty significant styling enhancements. This would mean a completely new front end, with more upright headlights and a grille, which also looks bolder and way more aggressive.

The rear end will follow the same design approach and come with similarly styled taillights, as well as a few more updates. Furthermore, we expect to see typical mid-cycle changes, such as new wheels, color options and similar things.

On the other hand, we don’t expect any mechanical changes. This SUV rides on a familiar C2 platform, the same one that underpins the current-generation Focus, with a pretty refined chassis and suspension setup, which ensure pretty engaging ride quality and overall driving experience.

Interior

We count on updates on the inside as well. Once again, we are referring to the U.S.-market Escape, which came with the same dashboard design but received new tech and convenience features. The most prominent is the new, optional 12.3-inch unit, while base models will come with an 8-inch touchscreen. Both units will come with the next-generation software, with better graphics, a more intuitive layout etc. All models will feature a digital instrument cluster, as a part of standard equipment.

Of course, we could also see smaller-scale updates, such as new color schemes, new materials and similar things. On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. This cabin doesn’t look as flashy as its rivals, but it’s functional, spacious and quite comfortable. Both rows are spacious and accommodate adult passengers with ease. The cargo area offers around 475 liters behind the second row, which is quite typical for the segment.

Trim Levels and Features

There’s no doubt that this update is about to bring more standard equipment, whether it’s about tech or convenience features. Still, we expect that the trim level organization will remain the same.

This means that base models will carry on with the Zetec moniker, which will come with the digital instrument cluster, 8-inch infotainment system, smartphone integration, alloy wheels etc.

The Titanium Edition will be the next trim on offer, with upgrades like bigger wheels, LED headlights, a better audio system and a few more convenience upgrades. The ST-Line will be a mid-level option, with lots of exclusive styling details, as well as updated suspension and upgrades. Furthermore, there is the ST-Line X Edition, with the addition of bigger wheels, a panoramic sunroof etc.

The Vignale will remain the most prestigious trim level in Kuga’s offer, with exclusive styling details, and nicer interior materials including leather upholstery, etc.

2024 Ford Kuga Engines

As we already mentioned, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle probably won’t change. So, we expect to see base models equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol unit, with a max output of 150 horsepower. This engine comes with a manual transmission and returns around 42 mpg in a combined ride.

The rest of the lineup is electrified and starts with a classic hybrid, which is based on a 2.5-liter inline-four and offers a combined output of 191 horsepower and an average fuel economy of around 50 miles per gallon. A similar system is available in a plug-in hybrid layout, with a bigger battery and more capable electric motor, for a total output of 210 horsepower. Both units come coupled with a continuously variable transmission. The PHEV also offers 37 miles of range in the all-electric mode.

2024 Ford Kuga Release Date and Price

The 2024 Ford Kuga will arrive sometime in the second half of the year and we don’t expect it to be more expensive than the current model, which starts at around £31.000. Of course, the competition will remain the same, in the form of models like the Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, Peugeot 3008 etc.
