Ford’s mid-size SUV will soon retire and leave space for some electric model. However, it looks like that won’t happen so soon, considering that the current generation, although old, still records pretty impressive sales numbers. That’s why the latest rumors suggest that the production will be extended to 2024 as well and that the 2024 Ford Edge will arrive without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar design, with familiar specs and features.

On the other hand, the company has different plans for Edge in China. In this part of the world, the company will introduce the next generation, which will be larger, with a longer wheelbase, and a more aggressive look. Also, this one will be offered with a hybrid powertrain as well. We expect to see it in production later this year.

The US version, on the other hand, will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023.

2024 Ford Edge Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the North American version is expected to remain in production for another year, before it gets discontinued. Considering that this will probably be the final production year, we expect that there will be no notable changes. The overall design will remain the same, even though it hasn’t changed much since 2019, at least in terms of the exterior. The current model still looks quite appealing, despite it being among the oldest in the class.

The same thing can be said for interior design. This part of the vehicle was updated in 2021, with a new dashboard that’s highlighted by a massive 12-inch tablet-like infotainment screen. The Edge’s cabin features decent overall quality, in a combination with a long list of standard and available features.

Although a mid-size SUV, the Edge accommodates five passengers. Both rows are very generous with space, while the cargo area also offers a respectable volume. You may count on 39.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 73.4 cubic feet in total.

Features

As we’ve just mentioned, the Edge is a well-equipped SUV and the next year’s model should carry on without bigger changes. So, base models should come standard with goodies like a 12-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and proximity keyless entry.

Among upgrades, expect to find goodies like navigation, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, remote start, ambient LED interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 110-volt household-style power outlet, a universal garage door opener and a panoramic sunroof.

When it comes to safety features, all models will come standard with a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. Also, there should be a couple of optional features, such as lane centering assist, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, park assist, front-view camera, rain-sensing wipers etc.

2024 Ford Edge Engine

Under the hood, the 2024 Ford Edge will certainly continue in the same way. Base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 250 horsepower and offers enough performance to satisfy most drivers. Those who look for something peppier may opt for the twin-turbo V6, which puts out around 335 horsepower and offers notably better driving dynamics.

The base engine comes with an 8-speed automatic and returns around 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which is very good for the segment. On the other hand, the V6 returns around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, which is about average for a mid-size SUV.

2024 Ford Edge Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Ford Edge will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023, with a starting price of around 38.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Chevy Blazer, Honda Passport etc.

2024 Ford Edge In China

For the Chinese market, the Blue Oval Company prepares a completely new model, which will soon debut. This one will feature a notably different design, which more modern styling and bigger dimensions. From what we know so far, the Chinese model will feature a four-inch longer wheelbase, with a total length of 196.9 inches, which is more than 8 inches more compared to the US model. The new SUV will be 77.2 inches wide and 69.8 inches tall.

When it comes to powertrain, base models will use a good old 2.0-liter turbo-four with around 250 horsepower. However, the company also prepares a hybrid version. Technical details about the hybrid are still unknown but we know that the combined output will go around 271 horsepower.
