One of the world’s most popular mid-size luxury crossovers is about to receive a facelift. If we consider that the current generation has been around since 2019, this seems like a perfect time for updates. The next year’s model is about to bring a quite comprehensive update, which will bring not just styling changes, but interior updates as well. Moreover, the 2024 BMW X5 is also about to come with a new version regarding the powertrain, as the M50i will be replaced with the M60i.

All these updates will make the X5 even more competitive but it’s important to bear in mind that this is rather a mid-cycle update, so the overall layout is about to remain the same. You may count on a crossover that offers engaging handling and quite capable powertrain options. Furthermore, we like its cabin, as well as a long list of standard and available equipment.

The 2024 BMW X5 should hit the market next summer.

2024 BMW X5 Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 BMW X5 is about to receive a mid-cycle update. We are about to see changes in various aspects and, of course, the focus will be on styling. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and despite the camouflage, it shows some pretty interesting updates.

At the front, you can notice a new, bigger and bolder grille, along with the new bumper. The rear end comes with updates too, with a new rear bumper, new rear diffuser and new exhaust pipes. Finally, we expect to see things like new color options and new wheels.

On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle is about to remain the same. We expect to see a familiar layout, based on the CLAR platform, which produces a fantastic balance between comfort and athleticism.

Interior

Interior changes are also about to come. The 2024 BMW X5 will get a new dashboard design, which will utilize nicer materials and a new shape. The biggest change will be the introduction of the new instrument and infotainment screens, which will come integrated into a large single unit, with a design that’s pretty much the same as in the all-electric iX. Of course, the new model will get the latest infotainment system, while we also count on many other new tech and convenience features.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout is about to remain the same. We are about to see a cabin with two spacious and comfortable rows of seats, while the third row will be available. However, the third row won’t be very generous with space. Of course, the cargo area will remain the same, so you may count on about 33.7 cubic feet of room behind the second row and 72.3 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

Features

This update should also bring novelties in terms of new standards and available equipment. However, we don’t expect to see significant updates in this aspect, as the current model already stands pretty well. We already mentioned the new screens and other than that, we presume that some of the currently optional features could become standard.

For reference, the current model comes standard with goodies like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, Bluetooth, HD Radio, satellite radio, a 10-speaker audio system, five USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic moonroof, keyless entry, push-button start and ambient LED interior lighting. Currently, the list of options includes a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a 20-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, hand-gesture recognition, quad-zone automatic climate control and remote start.

2024 BMW X5 Engines

This will be a pretty comprehensive update, which will also bring novelties under the hood. Base models will continue with a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six but this super-smooth engine will probably get a notable power increase. Instead of the current 335 horsepower, it should be good for about 375 horses.

The new M60i will replace the M50i and the main difference will be in the added 48-V mild-hybrid system. Other than that, the M60i will also feature a 4.4-liter twin-turbo, with the same max output of 523 horsepower.

Finally, there is the X5 M, which uses a 600-hp version of the V8 engine, which could also come with a slight power increase.

All engines will come with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
