After the recent redesign of the more conventional X1, we are all eagerly waiting to see the next generation of its coupe iteration, known as the X2. The latest reports suggest that the overhaul is about to happen in the next year and that the new model will debut as the 2024 BMW X2, The test mule has already been spotted and despite the camouflage, it shows some of the new styling bits, which will be shared with the more conventional sibling.
The good thing for us is that the X2 has always been closely related to the X1, so there’s no doubnt that the new generation will be the same. We count on all those novelties, both in terms of mechaincs and aesthetics. The new model will benefit from a more powerful engine, more spacious interior, new tech features and many more.
We presume it will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 BMW X2 Design
In terms of base design characteristics, we have no doubt that the 2024 BMW X2 will follow the path of the recently redesigned X1. This means that the new model will ride on an updated version of a familair UKL2 platform, with updates and upgrades in various asepct, starting from improved ride quality, even though the current model alread stands pretty well in this aspect.
Naturally, some of the biggest changes will be those in terms of the styling. We expect that the new model will feature longer wheelbase and, therefore, bigger overall dimensions. When it comes to the styling, the front end should look pretty much identical to the new X1, with bigger and bolder kidney grille, new headlignts, more aggressive bumper etc. Of course, the key difference will be on the rear end, where we expect to see a typical coupe layout, with a sloping roof and other design elements that characterize this body style.
The same thing goes for the interior design. We expect to see the same dashboard, characterized by a lot of new technical and aesthetical solutions. The most prominent, of course, is the new dashboard design, which is highlighted by a massive panel that integrates digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen. We also like the floating design of the center console, which makes the cabin look even more elegant.
Naturally, the cabin should come with plenty of new tech and convenience features. Base models will come standard with the aforementioned screens, as well as with things like wireless connectivity features, navigation etc. On the other hand, things like wireless charging, head-up display, wireless charging and similar things will be available as options.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation will feature a little bit longer wheelbase, which will certainly bring some benefits in terms of comfort. The X2 is less practical than the X1, with less cargo room and less rear headroom. Still, things still look pretty good when we compare X2 with other compact premium crossovers, including Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3 etc.
2024 BMW X2 Engines
We expect to see the same engine upgrade we saw in the X1 model, which would mean 13 more horsepower compared to the outgoing generation. So, the max output of this 2.0-liter turbo-four would go up to 241 horsepower. Also, there is a new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which should provide faster shifts and better overall performance.
The new X1 needs 6.2 seconds to hit 60mph, so we expect something similar from the 2024 BMW X2. The same is with fuel economy, which should go around 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
We also expect to see a performance version of the new crossover, with the famous M badge. Most likely, this version would come with an upgraded version of the turbo-four engine, with over 300 horsepower. Besides power increases, we also expect to see various chassis and suspension upgrades, bigger brakes, styling updates etc.
2024 BMW X2 Release Date and Price
The 2024 BMW X2 should arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 40.000 dollars.
