The new 2023 Volkswagen Touareg as well as the high-performance R model will reportedly arrive later this year. According to the manufacturer, the upcoming model will receive some exterior upgrades that will separate this flagship SUV from other models in VW’s lineup.

Many believe that besides the mid-cycle exterior change, the cabin of this model will be redesigned as well. So, we can expect more quality materials and probably some of the latest technology inside. Anyway, the VW also claims that under the hood there will happen some mechanical changes as well, and that buyers can expect four powertrain options, starting from a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.

2023 Volkswagen Touareg Redesign

When it comes to the exterior design, the 2023 Volkswagen Touareg will receive a mid-cycle update. From what we hear, the manufacturer will mostly be focused on visual appeal. So, the SUV should be more attractive, but the changes won’t be significant. Simply, Volkswagen company will only make some tweaks in areas like grille, bumpers and at the rear.

Based on the latest news, the forthcoming model will continue to ride on VW’s premium platform, known as MLB. It’s worth mentioning that the same platform is shared with the models like the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne etc. The ride quality is great, and the VW Touareg comes standard with an air suspension, all-wheel drive and many other premium features. The R model is the pinnacle on the offer, which should bring more sportier look thanks to a black accent, more attractive 22-inch alloy wheels, and performance brakes.

More Upscale Interior

On the inside, things feel even more impressive thanks to a great build quality. The 2023 Volkswagen Touareg features plenty of high-end materials, even on the entry-level model. On top of that, the amount of tech is excellent, and the cabin is more upscale compared to its sibling Tiguan. The overall layout will remain probably unchanged, and we can expect this SUV to offer a pretty spacious cabin.

However, there should be a couple of novelties to the list of standard equipment. As standard, the Touareg will include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new massive 15-inch infotainment screen. The high-spec version Touareg R will offer a plethora of exclusive features. With this version you can count on perforated leather seats with R stitching, heated and ventilated front seats, keyless entry, ambient interior lighting etc.

2023 Volkswagen Touareg Engine Changes

Beneath the hood, as VW claims, there will be some mechanical changes. The new 2023 Volkswagen Touareg will be powered by four engine options. The base model as far as we know will use a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine that produces 231 horsepower. The same engine is available in a more powerful setup as an optional feature, delivering 286 horsepower.

For petrol fans, the manufacturer continues to offer a 3.0-liter V6 TSI, which develops pretty impressive performance and output of 340 horsepower. Finally, the R model as a pinnacle on the offer will use a plug-in hybrid setup. This model will use the V6 petrol engine in a combination with a single electric motor. Thanks to that, the R model is able to deliver output of 462 horsepower. VW claim that the hybrid uses a 14.1-kWh battery pack, which should ensure around 30 miles of the all-electric range.

When Can We Expect the 2023 Volkswagen Touareg?

Considering all changes and upgrades, the forthcoming 2023 Volkswagen Touareg we presume will cost slightly more than the outgoing one.

The current model cost a little less than $30k, but we can expect the new one to likely cost above. As for the release, the new Touareg will hit the market a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of this year.
