Mazda has confirmed that’s working on three new SUVs, and we expect their arriving next year. As far as we know, the manufacturer will introduce the new CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 models. Moreover, we just got some of the 2023 Mazda CX-70 images and the upcoming two-row SUV looks better than any CX model so far. According to Mazda, this SUV will arrive in the US and it should be available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations.

As for the engines, power will be provided by the next generation of Mazda’s six-cylinder powertrains. Besides this engine we also hope to see at least one plug-in hybrid option.

2023 Mazda CX-70 First Look

The exterior of the new 2023 Mazda CX-70 will be eye-catching and we expect the same Kodo design to be used as before. Of course, there will be some modifications to separate aging CX models from the new ones. First of all, we noticed that the upcoming CX-7 looks sleeker, featuring the same sloping rear end as the CX-30 model. However, we don’t know how this will translate to headroom.

In general, the CX-70 is a much bigger crossover than the CX-30 and CX-50, so we expect additional room. As mentioned, there is one image available of the Mazda CX-70 and we first noticed its front end that dominates with a small grille with wide and tiny LED headlights. Also, the upcoming SUV is wearing two colors on the body and the roof rail, which is a big plus. The side profile is not less attractive than the front, and Mazda added new 17-inch black wheels.

Cabin Features

Inside, the forthcoming 2023 Mazda CX-70 will be modern and spacious. From the available information, the new SUV will come in the form of a two-row, offering enough space for five passengers. There will be more room than we saw on the CX-7 model for sure. This variant offers 30.9 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row or 59.6 cubic feet when the 40/20/40-split/folding rear seat is folded down.

In general, we think that the new CX-70 will match the Honda CR-V, which has 37.6/75.8 cubic feet. Also, unlike all current CX models, the new one will probably come with a large infotainment system situated atop the center console. In addition, expect plenty of standard features and many optional amenities.

At this point, there is no official statement of 2023 Mazda CX-70 engines. Many believe that Mazda will use some of the existing ones with at least one plug-in model. The options across all of Mazda’s SUVs include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and a turbocharged variant with 250 hp. Both units will use a six-speed automatic transmission and FWD.

When Can We Expect the 2023 Mazda CX-70?

The new 2023 Mazda CX-70 will arrive next year alongside models CX-50 and CX90. There is also gossip that the manufacturer will add to the lineup also a new CX-30 PHEV variant that sharing the same architectures as the upcoming CX-50 model. As you probably know, the CX-3 is discontinued and replaced with the CX-30, so we expect the same to happen with the CX-5, CX-70, and the three-row CX-9.
