The redesigned version of the 2022 VW Touareg is about to arrive. Basically, the upcoming mid-size SUV should hit markets later in the year. For 2022, the manufacturer will make some mild changes, making this SUV more competitive.
Generally, the mid-size segment is filled with many great SUVs, and this model is struggling very well against all of them. To put it simply, the Touareg is an answer to the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes GLE, and BMW X5. It’s a heavyweight battle, and only one model can win. However, VW is also offering a high-performance R version, which is a big plus.
2022 VW Touareg First Look
The exterior of the forthcoming 2022 VW Touareg looks fresh. Generally, the design of this flagship model is year by year better, and it struggles very well with its rivals. Built on the incredibly flexible MLB Evo platform, the Touareg uses the same architecture as the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and Lamborghini Urus.
The VW Touareg is recognized by the unique grille and new LED head/taillights graphics. For 2022, the manufacturer added bigger 19-inch alloy wheels on the standard model, while R-Line gains more stylish 20-inch alloy wheels. R-Line also comes with LED matrix headlights and better air suspension.
Interior Upgrades
Sophisticated with a high-tech interior, the latest 2022 VW Touareg is the new flagship model. This SUV features a very comfortable cabin that hosts much more technologies. According to images, the cabin is much better compared to the previous model. The five-seater SUV offers plenty of room, but not enough as its rival Audi Q7.
In terms of techs, the new Touareg includes a 9.2-inch touchscreen, heated and electric leather front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, electric tailgate with keyless entry, and much more. As we mentioned, the R-Line is the highlight on the offer. R-Line gets leather interior, brushed stainless steel pedals, R-Line multi-function steering wheel with heating and paddle shifters, memory for front seats, mirrors and steering adjustment, and black headlining.
2022 VW Touareg Offers Two Engine Options
Under the hood, the latest 2022 VW Touareg is offered with two engine options. The standard model uses a 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 280 hp and is available with a eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Moreover, more power comes with the high-performance Volkswagen Touareg R.
This version features a pretty punchy plug-in hybrid engine that consists of a 3.0-liter petrol V6 paired up with a 14.3kWh battery. Thanks to this setup, the R model produces 462 horsepower and uses all four wheels through a DSG automatic gearbox. Volkswagen claims that a high-performance SUV can run from 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds before hitting a limited 155mph top speed.
Release Date, Price
The release date of the Germans flagship model, 2022 VW Touareg, will happen later this year. According to many reports, we should only expect mild refreshments.
However, the high-performance version R will arrive as well, featuring more aggressive styling and much more horses. Pricing at this point is not yet available, but it should be very soon. Generally, we expect slightly higher figures than before.
