The 2022 Toyota Highlander will feature a refreshed styling, including a sleeker body and slightly larger shape than the outgoing model. It uses an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to front wheels (FWD) in standard form. All-wheel drive is optional as on many nowadays models in the class.

Hybrid Specs

The 2022 Highlander Hybrid system will use a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors. Also, it drains power from the nickel-metal hydride battery. The total system output of this model is 243 horsepower develops 175 lb-ft. Unlike the base model, the hybrid one comes with an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT). However, it comes also with a front-wheel drive, while all-wheel is optional. The Highlander Hybrid can pull a maximum of 3,500 pounds, while V6 is providing a much better tow rating of 5,000 pounds.

Unlike the predecessor that starts at less than $36,000, the new 2022 Toyota Highlander will cost slightly higher. Also, Highlander Hybrid will be available as well at the same time next year as the base one.

This model, dressed in Platinum trim, reaches $50,000. Depending on the trim, the all-wheel-drive can cost an extra $1,600 or $1,950. Compared to other models in the same class, the new Highlander costs more than the Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent, Nissan Pathfinder, Volkswagen Atlas, Chevrolet Traverse, Kia Telluride, and Hyundai Palisade.
