The new 2022 Lincoln Aviator is an excellent SUV that will receive some cosmetic changes this year. This model possesses one of the most eye-catching stylings in its class, and it takes its place between the giant Navigator and the smaller MKC Lincoln model.

Like its predecessor, the new one is classified as a three-row midsize luxury SUV and is based on the iconic Ford Explorer. It’s priced competitively against its European rivals, starting lower than the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class. Interestingly, Lincoln again offers the same two twin-turbocharged engines as we saw on the current model. Generally, both engines are strong, and there is no need to change that.

2022 Lincoln Aviator Exterior

The exterior of the new 2022 Lincoln Aviator is classy. Generally, like its big brother Navigator model, the Aviator features the same attractive front. Its outward appearance is recognized by its prominent massive grille, and the new adaptive Pixel LED headlamps. The side profile is also eye-catching, thanks to the standard 19-inch alloy wheels. On top of that, even on the back, you can find some sporty stance. We generally liked the most its chromed tips on the quad exhaust system.

The optional Monochromatic Reserve package is available as well, and it drastically changes the appearance of this SUV. This package includes black-finished 22-inch alloy wheels and various body-colored exterior pieces.

More Luxury Inside

The 2022 Lincoln Aviator is the best example of how an SUV needs to looks inside. This model provides one of the best comforts in the class. Interestingly, it offers 18 cubic feet of storage space, which is more than the BMW X5 and Cadillac XT6 provides. All seats are supportive, and the driver seat features 30-way adjustability and is massaging capability.

In terms of technology, the forthcoming SUV includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto capability, and also much more. On higher trims, you will get heated/ventilated seats, a smartphone key, quad-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 2nd-row captain’s chairs, and also a head-up display.

2022 Lincoln Aviator Powertrain Specs

Under the hood, the latest 2022 Lincoln Aviator keeps the same powertrains as its predecessor. It features precisely two of them. The base engine consists of a Twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 generating 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. However, this engine on the current model is EPA rated in city/highway 18/26 mpg (RWD), 17/24 mpg (AWD). The next engine and more efficient is a plug-in hybrid Twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6, which also hosts a 102-horsepower electric motor running off a lithium-ion battery.

Unlike the base engine, this one comes with an all-wheel drive as standard. The whole combination produces 494 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. The EPA estimates that, with a full charge, this version should be able to cover 21 miles in electric-only mode and achieve a total range of 460 miles. Both models are available with 10-speed automatic transmission.

Release Date and Price

The debut of the 2022 Lincoln Aviator will most likely happen in the coming months, with an unchanged pricing list. The current entry-level model starts at $52,195, while much more equipped Reserve costs $58,035.

All-wheel drive in these lower two trims cost an extra $2,500. The hybrid-powered Aviator Grand Touring tops out almost $70,000. Still, the Aviator base price is lower than German models like the Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, but its higher than the Volvo XC90 and Acura MDX.
